Say Goodbye to the Upside-Down 'N'

This week, Colorado Springs visitors are welcomed by a new sign.  The completion of the signs modernization was unveiled October 11, 2019.  Colorado Springs residents have been looking forward to a fresh, new, correct sign for quite sometime.

For roughly the last 26 years the sign that welcomes residents and visitors into our community has had a silly defect, being that the 'N' was upside-down.  Most visitors would accredit this error to the city being "high" but this flaw took effect long before marijuana was legal.

After 5 years a local nonprofit was able to raise $70,000 to erect the (old) Colorado Springs sign just south of the N. Gate Blvd exit on I-25.  The sign was installed in the fall of 1993 and since the concrete was cast in place right beside the highway, no one noticed the error until it was too late.  Since fixing the 'N' meant that the nonprofit would have to raise about another $40,000 they decided to leave it as is saying, "They liked the character it added".

In 2015 Colorado Springs was rebranded as "Olympic City, USA".  After 4 years the city has finally brought the new brand to the welcome sign.  This project comes from local sponsors and no tax dollars were used.  The city plans to place similar signs around the city, starting with the Colorado Springs Airport.

What do you think of the new sign?
